Anna Wilson is an artist born and working in London, Ontario. She graduated from Western University in 2018, where she studied visual art and psychology. She currently works as an artist in residence at TAP Centre for Creativity, pursuing her interest in drawing architecture and furniture. Wilson had her first solo exhibition in June 2019, and has continued to show art in London, Ontario, as well as Toronto, Montreal, and Nova Scotia. She has received multiple grants including Canada Council for the Arts Explore and Create component for 2020 and 2021, and has also been granted the TAP Emerging Artist Program residency. Wilson currently works full time in her studio, where she recently completed working on a project celebrating her home city of London, which focused on the architecture and furniture that makes the city unique. Most recently, the Colart Collection and Sifton Properties have acquired her works. Wilson’s drawings have also recently been featured in issue 24 of Create! Magazine.
Anna Wilson's works are largely based on fineliner marker drawings depicting the manipulation and abstraction of architecture and interiors. These drawings, overflowing with lush detail, intend to evoke memories of comfort and familiarity for each viewer through the portrayal of lived-in furniture and well-loved spaces. The fine detail and full nature of each piece appeals to the viewer's sense of well-being, and their own memories of time and place may be projected onto the work. Wilson's art intends to transform once functional architectural perspectives of buildings and interiors, into new, multilayered fictional spaces of memory and place that may appeal to humanity's desire for comfort and familiarity.
