Description

Title: “Abundance” Size: 18”x24”x0.5" Medium: acrylic on canvas. Painted Sides. Hanging wire installed. Ready to hang. Original Painting. The painting of a bison was done of off the original photo taken by me at the Elk Island Park which stands on Treaty 6 land —the ancestral and traditional territory of the Cree, Dene, Blackfoot, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, as well as the Métis. I recognize the land as an act of reconciliation and gratitude to those whose territory I reside on. Bison was more than just a food source then. It's bones and antlers provided raw materials for making tools, the hides were used to make clothing and insulate homes. Dried bison meat also was traded. Painted bison here symbolizes our ancestor's way of life.
