Description

I painted this piece in 2013 at my aunt’s house in Ottawa. We were renovating the main floor so I added leftover wall putty (spackling) to blue paint and smacked it on the canvas with a palette knife, carefully avoiding the penciled outline of the figure. I used a variety of pens, pencils, and permanent marker in detailing the blue woman who stared back at me. This piece is a marker in my timeline referencing when I realized I could be something, be someone, despite my anxiety and nervousness, all thanks to witnessing the general anxiety and nervousness of a woman in administration at the university I attended. Hers are eyes lonely piercing into the viewer’s mind knowing that there is more in there, in that moment, than can ever be expressed. https://ashleygrenstone.ca/ https://ashleygrenstone.ca/portfolio/artwork/acrylic-painting/
